How to understand Black art across the diaspora

ABOUT TORRENTS

TORRENTS is not a conference – it aims to deconstruct the “traditional” inaccessible academic settings, with a mission to support the development of new ideologies and frameworks that challenge us to reach outside our collective imagination, while daring to disrupt traditional models across mediums.

This interactive series will be documented and made accessible to the community both virtually and in-person, culminating in public events and art installations. Moving forward from the first presentation, Torrents will be an annual or bi-annual festival grounded in Washington, D.C. TORRENTS: New Links to Black Futures is curated and created by CulturalDC, Jamal Gray, and ISE-DA.

TORRENTS runs from November 10th to November 13th 2022.
